When Do you think we'll see mobile 890gx chipsets?

In my opinion the ATi 4290 IGP and 45nm K10.5 processors are going to be the best thing to hit the thin and light segment in years. A 12" laptop that can likely get 6 hours of battery life with double the graphics muscle of the ATi 3200 is exactly what I want. (And will probably canibalize a ton of CULV and Atom sales) The only question is when. AMD's roadmap last october said H1 '10, and the desktop version is probably coming out in april-may. Does anyone know anything about this? has it slipped? is it still on track?

the 890gx is still a 55nm design and will likely still have the same number of shaders as the 780g.

in fact its all but confirmed.

Really, I googled it and had trouble finding info, but it looked like the 890 would basically put a 4330 on board. if this isn't the case, then I might as well go out and buy a UL30 right now. I wanted 12" but if I have to go to 13" (and intel 🙁 )to get decent graphics, then I guess i just need to suck it up.

Can anyone confirm that the IGP on AMD's next gen ultrathin platform is basically going to be the same as the 3200?

AMD will finally launch a new DirectX 10.1 based chipset but unfortunately, this won't happen at least until May 2010.

The currently available AMD 790GX has DirectX 10 core inside and it's quite an effort to swap the old core and integrate the new one. That is why AMD takes its time to upgrade to DirectX 10.1 with AMD 890GX chipset and only in 2011 with Llano it plans to get DirectX 11 core in a mainstream graphics core.

The graphics core on AMD 890GX should work at 700MHz like the HD 3300 core on the 790GX, and for 22W TDP Northbridge this is quite a good clock speed. As you can imagine 890 GX graphics are based on a crippled version of the RV710 graphics core and therefore it supports UVD 2.

The launch date should be May, but we expect motherboards based on it to start showing around Computex 2010 that kicks off in first week of June 2010.

It says nothing about the number of SPs though. This article references a fudzilla article (which I can't find) that agrees on the 700mhz clock, but suggests they're doubling the SPs

Another that says 4350/4330: http://www.techfuels.com/latest-hardware-news/20803-features-amd-890gx-chipset.html

It's (apparently) called the Radeon 4290, I've heard that too maniac5999. I believe it's Radeon 4350 based, and 80sp... The AMD Danube platform will be out this year, but I'm not sure if it's 4290 based or the same old 4200.

(edit) I'm inclined to think that it's going to be an 800-series after looking more. I got super excited when I saw these current Athlon II and Turion II processors, as AMD finally is moving past K8 for their mobile platform!! But 2010 will be even better. Better dual-cores, quad-cores, even triple-cores...

and an RS880M chipset, which I'd like to know more about:

As would I. Is that for mainstream only or for the ultrathin segment as well? All AMD said for their next gen ultrathin when they put the roadmap up last fall was DX 10.1 IGP. I'm really hoping that that means 4290 not 4200 (The 4200 is basically just a 3200 with 10.1 support) The reason that I'm prying so much is that my old laptop (K8 3200+, ATi 200m) is really starting to feel it's age, and I might have over OC'd the graphics core a little, it now flakes out occasionally when asked to do 3d.
