When do you plan to take down your Christmas lights?

Now that Christmas Day is past, I was wondering, when do you plan to take your Christmas lights down?

We plan to take ours down on January 6. We will take down our Star Showers and the lights wrapping the tree in our front yard. Our icicle lights on our back fence will remain up, but we won't turn them on except for parties. The red and green bulbs in our front light fixtures will be changed to red and pink for Valentine's Day.

Leave them up until spring, maybe March or April. They are snowed in and glued to my house with ice. And it's going to be in the negative temperatures for the next week.

When the wife says so. I put the tree up, I take the tree down, my role is complete. About the same as her car...I handle the outside, the inside is not my area. :D

I thought you were in S.C....must have been confused.

Yes, cold next week but not March...unless it's a ploy.;)

I usually take mine down in May or June, or whenever the snow is melted. Come to think of it, if I can find a way to install them just under the soffit out of the sun I could leave them up all year round. Only reason I take them down is that they fade in the sun and the wiring can get brittle.

Second week in January seems right, but my father always lamented they didn't stay up til his birthday Jan 30. I tend to leave some stuff up til then in his honor.

So, like on a scale of 1 to 10 how sure are you that you are supposed to take them down at all?

As of yesterday we took down our outdoor decorations and replaced the green bulbs in our outdoor light fixtures with pink ones while leaving the red ones up, while as of today we took down our indoor tree.

Took down my tree today. Sad to see it go, but also glad it's done and I get that space back. Outside lights are lit and garlands are still up. Might unplug them some time in the next week or so.

It's going to hit 32 today, so that's the end of Frosty. Don't worry, he'll be back again next year

I started taking down ours on Sunday when we had a break in the rain but didn't finish. I've got two trees out front I need to get lights off of but that probably won't happen for a few weekends since it's still raining and I'll be out of town this weekend. Usually, it's whatever weekend after the 1st though.

I've never had outdoor lights (apartment-dweller, here), but most of the decorations go the day after Twelfth Night. Not entirely historically correct as it turns out, but so far my vegetation has always continued to grow during the following year so I guess as far as the relevant PsTB are concerned, it's close enough. Or maybe it's the fact that some sort of decoration invariably squeaks through and ends up hanging around all year, thus placating said PsTB...;)

We got freezing rain a while back. My lights are definitely not coming down until June at this point. lol. Would need a jackhammer to get them out.

We only decorated the door this year so we'll leave the lights up all year as the porch light switch is on the inside of the house and the switch for the Christmas lights is on the outside of the house and when coming home to a dark house, it is useful to be able to light up the porch to unlock the door.

I put one of these in the porch light and just leave the inside switch on. It....works, usually? I think I need to clean the glass dome, or replace it. It most frequently responds to the storm door opening directly under it, or a violent tap to the dome. Sometimes it actually manages to activate before I ascend the stairs.
