When do you plan on retiring?

I'm shooting for semi-retirment at the age of 40-45. Possibly earlier depending on how many gadgets I want.

Also matters a bit on what the definition of retired is to, as I will be an active investor till 60 atleast. At 40, I should easily be able to live off of dividends and profits from options. Also hope to have the house paid off prior to retiring.

i plan to either die young, or live at least 100 yrs, so i will probably retire late

I'm trying to put away a decent amount into my 401k early on (i'm in my mid-20s), so that I can shave off at least a few years of time working.

I will likely never retire.

Not due to a lack of financial planning though.

Get a 401/457/roth going as soon as possible..SS is only a book entry and proly won't be there by the time you retire.

60ish, and yes I'm making plans for it now, which don't include crap in other people's hands, such as SS or a pension.

I'll be eligible for retirement in 13 years, but it won't amount to much until I'm age 60 which is 18 years away.

The question is not when I WANT to retire, it's a matter of wanting to live with a part time job and retirement, or strictly retirement with nearly 100% of what I'm making now. When I retire, it's for good, I don't want to have to worry about money and I won't if I wait another five years.

I always laugh when I hear people say they want to retire by 40... it's such a cliche. I hate not working, so I'm in the same boat as CPA and K1052.

Barring a significant, widespread disaster on wall street, I'll be in a position to start considering retirement in around 7 years at 39.

Well, I hated being unemployed, not only from the lack of funds, but it's just plain boring. i would rather have a job until I was dead

I have a family tradition to uphold.

We either work till we drop or go senile and think we're still working.:D

Not to mention the fact I don't know what the hell I would do with myself in all that free time...
