When do you expect Conroe prices to stabilize?

they sell E6600 for $370 . now its important to know that these stores sell stuff $30 more than the OEM price, so yeah now.. cuz frys aint gonan lwoe the price .

I'll repeat what I said in the *Official* Conroe release thread:


Maybe I'm just weird but I think there will be plenty of Conroes on August 7th. Intel has clearly stated that they will have 1 million units available within less than 10 weeks from the official launch date which was the 27th. They've been producing them for at least two months and the 10 weeks ends about 2 months after August 7th when these will ship so by August 7th there should be roughly half a million CPUs available. That means that their should be any where from 50,000 to 150,000 E6600 available. The few e-tailers that have published preorder numbers have all been below 1,000 so I doubt that all of them will be sold and with the chips arriving at an average of 1,000 to 2,000 a day I doubt that much of the current price gouging will occur.

I really believe that Conroe prices will be within 5% of what they will be for the following two months by the end of the second week of August.

My estimate is by mid-August prices will stabilize. By late August/early September, one should be able to go to any e-tailer/retailer and pick one up just like any other processor.

Personally, I'd give it 6 months if I was looking to buy. I'd like more motherboard options, maybe lower prices, and more bios revisions that fix little issues that may pop up.

I'm still interested to see the Nforce5 based boards.

Availabilty not for awile since Intel is producing 50% less than what they thought... Personally the chip price doesnt bother me from what I've seen..slight gouging but that to be expected but overall Intel set the prices low compared to what AMD pulled on us with thier X2 when they were top dog last spring/summer...remember the cheapest dual core was the 4200 for $520!!!! It was'nt till 6 months later they gave us a $320 3800+, thier lowest end chip... Intels lowest end conroe is $180-200..

That's my line of thought too. If they aren't stabilized by mid August anyway, I'm gonna get something else and upgrade around Christmas.

In my expert opinion...
I'd have to say that we will see some initial stabilization of Conroe prices beginning in Q2 of 07. Complete stabilization should arrive in Q1 of 08.

They already have because of Intel's request that the channel not ship until 8/7.

There are plenty of online suppliers charging approx:
E6300 - $219
E6400 - $249
E6600 - $339

You won't find much lower on retail CPU's until Intel has a formal price reduction and I'm sure that won't happen until late this year.

There's some gouging going on such as Newegg quoting $1350 for the X6800 and all of Mwaves prices are rediculously high.

Just shop around a little and you'll find these prices.

P.S. Some people mistakenly think that Intel's quoted 1k pc OEM tray price is also MSRP on single boxed retail units. That's simply not true.

Yeah, that did suck. But I can't say I blame AMD management to much. They've been bleeding cash on and off throughout their whole history. If they want to stay afloat they have to get their revenues when they can.
