I can't call in sick to work because that would only leave one person to run the store. Makes it impossible to go out and get more inventory if we run out, which we frequently do.

I think businesses should encourage employees to stay home if they are legitimately sick with something that's contagious. Once something spreads, even if it's just the cold, it's going to harm productivity and make everyone miserable. My mom used to get peeved at this no end when she ran her own business. The payroll girl was frequently ill but insisted on coming in. Then it would spread around the office, and home. Just stay the hell home. I don't want your germs.

Well, If you're my co-worker who left early yesterday on account of allergies, you also call in today.

So now I can't take my wife and newborn to his doctors appointment because I'm the only person here.

I have to be hurting pretty dang bad to call in. While at my last job for 18 months I didn't use any sick or personal time.

There would be reports of bad snowstorm coming in and people would freak out and leave before noon. I'd just be like "meh" and work till whenever in the evening, clean off my car, and drive home. I guess if you were travelling 60+ miles then maybe, but people would take time off due to snow way to easily.

If I ever had stuff to do like appointments, errands, etc I would just come in and make up time later. Even shit like when it took almost 3 hours to get new tires.

So when layoffs came and I was one selected to being laid off, I was pretty pissed cause not only did I do my work at least as good as my peers, but I had never called in sick or used any time. Nice.

sucker :)

When I'm sick.

I appreciate it when the other people in my office do the same so as not to infect me.

What type of store do you run? Just curious as someone who has worked retail the past 5 years or so.

I haven't called in sick at my current place of employment in... Ever. I teach math and physics; I have 180 days to makes sure my students can do their absolute best on their state exam. Substitutes can't teach math. Substitutes can't teach physics. At the pizza shop where I work/have worked since 1985, I called in sick 3 times. Once was for a death in the family, the other two times, I had to be taken to the hospital. Hell, when I got a vasectomy, I was working two jobs. I took personal time to get the morning off, then went to work at the 2nd job at 5pm.

re: spreading illness - you're already sick and spreading your germs before you actually show symptoms. General good hygiene will help decrease your own risks of getting sick. i.e. if just being sick was enough to get everyone in the office sick, there should be no one left to work in hospitals - they'd all be sick all the time.

haha, owned.

They probably canned you (over other people) because you came in with colds/flu all the time and always got the boss sick. I will never have that issue.

1. When I cannot make it to work without shitting or puking in my car.
2. When my fever is 104 and I cannot drive due to seeing things.

Yeah right

I have missed days due to circumstances beyond my control, but I don't believe I have ever called in sick and stayed out of work.

I seem to get sick on the weekend, or when I am on vacation.
