Anyone know? I'm sure there is a pattern to it all year-to-year.

There are some already out ... 2009 Corolla for one. Many years ago there was a defacto standard but no more.

Yeah since those are new redesigns. I'm mainly looking for the 09 Yaris and 09 Impreza.

many cars are released the spring before the actual year, so a 2009 model year would debut in the spring of 2008. not true for all vehicles, but for many, IIRC

Since those are not redesigns, look for them to hit sales lots from september to october. Since the 08's and 09's are probably going to be identical, you'll get a better deal on an 08 at that point, and get the same car.

The 09s are said to have some improvements that the 08s don't have. Namely side airbags on the Yaris will be part of a package and thus, easier to find. Currently it is very difficult to find a hatchback with those airbags.

A model year of car can only have one January 1st. So they could've come out as soon as almost 6 months ago and can last until 12/31/09.

I haven't heard anything yet, but I'm hoping that they'll address the crappy paint job that the 08s have had. From other forums it has been said that the paint is super thin and even after the car is washed the sides near the tire wells look like they have been sandblasted.

gotcha. I did some research over at the NASIOC forums and many 08 owners have reported this issue - it seemed that most of them got support from Subaru of America for some sort of warranty. Supposedly Subaru has been pretty good about it.
There is also a thread on the undercarriage being severely rusted after only a few weeks/months.
But yeah, those issues kind of scared me away from it for now. I was hoping that 09 would get the sport grille standard, a moonroof & heated seats in the non-Outback Sport model

Anyway, I would look for an 09 Impreza in Sept/Oct time-frame.

I'm right with you there. Heated seats would be fantastic, but I am not willing to may more than 1K over to upgrade to an OBS or a WRX to get 'em.

Same here... obviously the WRX is in another "class".

Do remember that you get more than just heated seats for that $1k:
heated mirrors and windshield
roof rack
nicer 17" wheels
slightly different suspension
panels to prevent door dings - I have no idea what they're actually called
i also believe you get the rubber mat for the trunk
UGLY color combinations - controversial styling already
(this is moving up from the "Premium Package" to the OBS - assuming you get the hatch)

regardless, you can get aftermarket heated seats if you'd really like.
I would have bought it already if it got better mileage~

Yeah you're right there are a few other bennies to the OBS but the only ones I would care about are the heated seats and maybe the suspension. With current gas prices as they are it is hard to justify the Impreza right now, but I do live in a place where it snows so maybe. An average of 25mpg city/hwy kinda blows.

import manufacturers tend to release it the spring of the year before. domestics tend to release it in the summer/fall of the year before.
