I'm taking them down today... is this socially acceptable? What would Emily Post say? What does ATOT say?

BTW, the outside lights haven't been turned on since the day after Christmas; I've just been too sick to take them down earlier.

It's generally accepted among the Christmas decorating community that they should be put up sometime in November, and turned on Thanksgiving Day. Some people wait until December 1, though it is few that do so.

This year has been an odd weather year for most decorators - most people took theirs down between Christmas & New Year's Day. The largest decorators, the ones that take a few weeks to complete their displays, normally start tearing down on December 26. Those that have displays <150,000, in general, take theirs down on or around January 1.

You can take yours down when Martha Stewart takes hers down.

Oh, uh wait a minute. Nevermind.

My tree comes out once per new apartment and remains out until I move.

Ours came down today, well, the ornaments came off the tree yesterday and today I hacked it up and threw it out.

Yeah, I was tempted to ask another question in that poll -- what Christmas decorations would qualify you as ... *ahem* not having the best taste. Anyone want to share horror stories there?

I generally take the Christmas decorations down the weekend after New Years.

We take them down 12 days after the 25th of December. :) That or after Epiphany, whichever comes last.

whenever I have the time. probably next week.

I'm still not sure what I want to do with my tree yet. I don't plan on using it next year, because it's too small, and I'll know better Christmas (to get a good tree, go early). it seems like such a waste to throw it out, though (it's a fake tree... cost me $40).
