3. read? ( not yet, but remembers all the words to all books... if i misread something, he corrects me and tells me the right words... its a start! )

1 & 2 have pretty much be accurately answered. Generally speaking, most kids are walking pretty well by one year.

My son is 5, and he starts Kindergarten fall 2003, and he can read, by sounding out the letters, but he really isn't into it yet. We have to prompt him to. He's pretty advanced, I don't think most kids are doing that until first grade, at least I didn't.

my oldest (also in kindergarten) has really started to read well lately. he likes reading to his younger siblings.

of the 3 he has and had the most interest in books since a very young age.

3) 5 yrs 9 mos. He's 6 yrs 9 mos now and reading Harry Potter book 1 by himself

Daughter:

2) same as son
3) she's only 3 yrs 1 month, but I think maybe she'll read early, like 4.

yeah. The Amneotic fluid turns greenish brown. It is only a really bad thing if the child goes into meconium aspiration syndrome, when the baby gets the fluid into its lungs. This happens when the babye is stressed and its body "gasps for air" so to speak. Pretty bad. Or it could be a problem when the child poops several days before birth.

yeah. The Amneotic fluid turns greenish brown. It is only a really bad thing if the child goes into meconium aspiration syndrome, when the baby gets the fluid into its lungs. This happens when the babye is stressed and its body "gasps for air" so to speak. Pretty bad. Or it could be a problem when the child poops several days before birth.

That happened to my neice. She almost died, was in Doernbecker's Children's Hospital in Portland OR for weeks. The meconium is tar like and coats the inside of the baby's lungs, so they can't pass oxygen to the blood stream very well.

Oh, and the color comes from the particles the baby swallows during gestation, they "practice" eating and breathing, the particles are stuff like dead cells floating around in the amniotic fluid.

this happened to me... almost died... sent me to the children's hospital in detroit. i stayed there for 10 days.

#3 really depends a lot on the person; I'd hate to see some sort of average.
Statistically, I'm an outlier, as I was reading by age 4, due to in part Wheel of Fortune(no joke, if you want to teach kids spelling, word recognition, and some pronuciation, it's the right show). Kids will pick up reading in large part due to the external influences, such as their parents reading to them, and other sources. I've seen a study where a kid picked up reading at age 3, and by age 5, was at the 5th grade level of reading(which isn't suprising, I was at the 6th grade level at 1st grade). This isn't to say that if you give your 3 month old a book, he'll be reading Shakespear next week, but there doesn't seem to be the same "point" where kids read like there is when they walk. Most kids will end up reading by Kindergarten because of the education, but with the right outside influences, they'll start earlier, and progress faster.
