good one. yep, that would do it.

It's not a destination, it's a process that you mark by certain events such as:

Getting hit with emergency expenses and sucking it up
buying a house
having something go wrong in your house and not having a landlord to call to deal with it
taking care of a hospitalized wife
bringing babies home from the hospital

so true

Great thread. :)

I went through a lot as a kid (20 surgeries in 16 years, 18 of which before I was 8), and I think that made me feel more mature than others my age... but I never felt "grown up" until I bought my house at 24. Turning 30 last year pretty much cemented it for me though. Realizing that I'm no longer in my 20's, and that the stuff I started way back when (buying the house, starting my retirement fund) will actually pay off, and sooner than I think.

Despite all that I still do "kid stuff" occasionally... I still watch cartoons, and one of my favorite places to go on vacation is Disneyworld.

Youth is all in your mind, age has nothing to do with it. :)

I just turned 36, and I am convinced that the age of 36 is the actual gateway into adulthood. My reasoning: At the age of 36, I am closer to the age of 50 than I am to the age of 20. Since the age of 50 is the traditional gateway to seniority, being closer to it than to the age of 20 (the perfect age of youth) officially makes me an adult.

I'm not there yet, but once I graduate college, start working full-time, and get my own place... i'm sure i'll have that feeling.

I figured it out when one day in college I realized I had racked up 10k in credit card debt. Since paid off, but that will shove you into reality quickly.

what's with all this "growing up" nonsense?!
Toys-R-Us kid are ya?
I try not to take life too seriously. I can be mature when I want to but prefer not to be a stick in the mud. I've been through too much sh1t for that.

getting back into college at the age of 24....I really realized how much more mature I am than even the 22 year olds there....Honestly though every month or so I look back and realize that I'm even more mature than the previous month.

When I was a junior in high school and came home from school one day to find the house empty, locked up and had no idea where my parents were, and all I had was a 600.00 POS car and the clothes on my back.

25 and waiting. I think it may never happen.

Maybe if my brothers move out (they are 10 years younger than me) and I am still here.

No, I was not demon. My parents were both drunks, both fighting and seems like they were trying to kill each other. My father had left on an extended business trip and my mother decided to take advantage of the fact that he was gone and wanted to leave the situation and not tell anyone. I literally went to school, went to my part time job after shool came home and that was it. I did not want to be around my father, and had no idea where my mother was. My father was on the other side of the world anyway. So I was on my own in one instant. I think I was making 1.90 an hour then (min wage, part time job after school) It was a friday and I had just got paid. If I remember I also had a check for 39.00 in my pocket. :)
