Windows XP is still all over the place, but is anyone still using Win9x (including ME) for anything?

In an instrumental analysis lab, an old GC used software that wasn't supported later than 95/98. That was a year ago for me.

a couple months ago... turned on an old Win98 laptop because I was curious to see if it still worked.

I have to deal with Win2k with an annoying regularity at work because of clients who refuse to upgrade.

I refuse to remember. Win7 is bliss compared to those days, and I doubt I'll even try the next iteration.

A month ago or so, I wiped a Win98 machine, and put Xubuntu on it. A few years ago I set up a dual boot Win98/2kpro system for work. I didn't personally use Win98, but we needed it for some ancient DOS based GPS software. A vm wouldn't work due to hardware DRM, a fuckin' serial dongle :^S

Got a copy of WinXP from MSFT about a month before release. So that was the last time. Whenever that was.

It's been a while.

The first computer I ever owned was Windows 98 (not SE), though.
That thing blue screened so much. I'm not sure if it was solely the hardware or the OS, as well.

I think the last time I used it must have been 2003.

A couple of months ago at my volunteer job. Or regular mobile production truck was off on another shoot so we had to use the "shaggin waggon". Thing dates back to the 90s with bits going back to the 80s. Graphics computer was running 9x and wouldn't accept a USB stick. So basically we had to make our own graphics for the show. Looked like a third grader did it. When cable access considers it outdated, it's outdated.

used windows 3.11 for workgroups about 4 years ago.
it was on a CNC machine

Nice. My favorite versions of Windows are 3.1, 95, XP SP2/3, and 7. Everything else has issues for me (though Vista is okay now, 7 was more polished straight from release).

lol DRM dongles, I remember daisy chaining those together, and sometimes you had to try out different combinations before everything would work.

dumbest fucking technology ever created.

even dosbox is doing a better job

do anyone knows a virual machine out there that can emulate a better graphic card for windows 98??
the virtual machine of microsoft sucks a 4mb gpu diamond stealth!?!?!?
lol that limit a lot the games to be played in the virtual machine
also i launched a game and the sound had terible hip hops
playing pausing playing
i could not understant any word the game was telling me
so as long my faithfull pc will run i will use it when i get nostalge with old games

Hmm... Probably around 2002. Windows 2000 and XP were so much better, so there was no excuse not to upgrade.

Oh, and "I didn't want to pay for it" wasn't a good excuse, considering that 2000 didn't have an online license key check like XP did :)

7 should have been a service pack for vista.

7 should have been a service pack for vista.

Technically it is. Windows 7 is actually Windows 6.1. Most of the changes are under the hood to streamline things, much like what Apple did with Snow Leopard around the same time.

Haven't tried Windows 8 yet but a lot of people are complaining about Metro and the simplified desktop UI. As usual, MS is late to the party as both Ubuntu and OSX have had something similar for awhile. Mind you Microsoft's does look better executed.
