It's no wonder you don't know about it, given that Windows 2k didn't get Automatic Updates until SP3.

Sorry, it's a Windows XP/2K SP4 feature (or maybe SP3 as the previous poster said)... I just meant it's purpose is for cases like this, even though people like myself get annoyed with it popping up while I'm playing a game to tell me it downloaded an update.

And to answer your second question... maybe cause you're running Windows???
