The type where you could save games onto it before Sony put in that protection thing because some people used the internet to dl stuff.

I dont know. All I know is that Sony changed the protection on the PSPs after the original versions, and I need to know when Sony changed it so that I can buy the original series on eBay

They have a new motherboard that is supposed to brick when you downgrade it below 2.5... but I think people found a way around that. In any event, just search eBay for PSP firmware 1.50. There's a guy who sells them for $120-130 already downgraded to 1.50 for you. All you have to do is upgrade to the third party firmware of your choice.
