When did shaving cream companies start doing this????

My wife has some skintimate shaving gel in the bathroom. On the bottom of the can is a little black plastic thing. Well I was bored and I was on the can so I grabbed it and pushed the little plastic thing on the bottom.
Now she is almost out of shaving gel and it's all over the bathroom.

Mrsskoorb did that the other day. And then she did it again and I asked her to stop. I don't know why they have those but I'd guess it's so that once pressure gets to a certain point (perhaps you're in a plane or something) before the can explodes it will have this valve on the bottom...
