Next thing you know he will be locking away people without trial
In a letter to Senate leaders, Attorney General John Ashcroft said the changes contemplated by the Security and Freedom Ensured Act, or SAFE, would "undermine our ongoing campaign to detect and prevent catastrophic terrorist attacks."
If the bill reaches President Bush's desk in its current form, Ashcroft said, "the president's senior advisers will recommend that it be vetoed."

Congress should then threaten to let the entire PATRIOT act expire next year. That'll show 'em they can play hardball. :)

Q: How many terrorists has the PATRIOT act actually caught? Any? Can someone put a number on it?

So the PATRIOT act will end up being much like the DMCA, a big stick that doesn't do what it's supposed to do while taking away our rights? Way to go arsecraft, way to go.
