When did it become ok for people to be late?

I agreed to meet a friend today after our 11:00 lecture (which ends at 11:50) at a location pretty much in between our lectures. I got there at 11:52 or so and waited until 12:05 and left and I guess he got there right after I left. When I called him at 12:30 (obviously I probably sounded pretty pissed) he gave me this really indignant attitude and called me impatient (and since I needed to borrow a ruler from him he also said, "Well apparently you didn't want the ruler very much"). It doesn't really matter, but his excuse was that he stayed after and talked to his professor.

Anyways, has anyone else noticed a trend of people not being on time? Seems like anytime people tell me they'll be somewhere at a certain time, they're always at least a few minutes late, and what's worse, they never apologize for it even if you call them out on it. Please tell me this kind of behavior ends once you get out of college.

Considering that you were the one in need of the favor, he doesn't really have to be on time. In my book, having to talk to the professor is good enough excuse. I guess it all depends on how good of a friends you are.

My manager is on time for every meeting and appointment. On time to her is 5 minutes after the meeting has started.

Twice last week i set up meeting times with her and both times she wasn't ready until at least 45 minutes after the meeting was supposed to start.

Honestly, one of my... quirks, is that I get really pissed off at myself if I'm not on time. I absolutely hate being late... some of my friends are always late, and therefore I've come to expect it, but I'm more angry at myself than other people for some reason.

i believe in being 'fashionably late'

To liike a party or something, but when meeting up with a friend after class?

I hate being late, and hate people who show up late.

Seems like you are a little impatient. You should have waited at least 15 more minutes. Or you could have called him.

Well we were supposed to get lunch too and he even knew that I was skipping a 12:05 lecture which takes attendance to do it (not that skipping lectures is a problem for me, but it's not like I don't have anything else to do that I want to just sit around all day).

Good job skipping class! Way to put that college tuition to use!

I thought there was a reason why everyone got cellphones ? If I know I'm going to be more than 5 minutes late, I'm calling ahead.

In my defense, the class is elementary logic for liberal arts credit. 😛

Heh, I skipped almost 50% of my classes (more like 75% towards my senior year) and I still graduated with 3.65 GPA. Once you get to your senior years you realize that most of those classes are BS.

I hate being late for anything. I'm usually at work 15-30 minutes beforehand (plus if I leave any later I'll hit traffic and be late) and I'm usually at class 5-10 minutes ahead of time. However, if I am late, I apoligize for it.

I do not get to work early, spend as little time as possible there. I get there right on time and sometimes because of traffic I arrive 5 minutes late but we have a 10 minute period after you are supposed to be there that won't get you in trouble.

I'm on a strategic planning committee for work, and its one of the most boring meetings we have. We have this one guy who is always 15-20 minutes late. Anyway, 2 other people and I took the opportunity to propose he be moved to an office in a different area, since his location doesn't make a whole lot of sense, and it was passed before he got to the meeting. Everyone knew what was going on, and pretty much everyone felt like sticking him with a big fat screw you!

not counting work

Im usually early anyplace, and all my friends are late, it drives me insane

the few times I am late they are even later...It seems most of the times that I am going to be late, I rush to get there and will be there 5 minutes late max and then still have to wait 10 minutes for anyone else...argh...drives me insane

my g/f does it too, but now I just add 30 minutes to whenever she says she will be someplace, then I am pleseantly surprised if she gets there before that
