nothing FWD can be sporty.

No, it can never be sports

The word "sporty" was practically invented for FWD (or sedans)

Doesn't really count, but there are plenty of sports cars that have 4 cylinders and less than 325bhp.

Anyone who calls a Carrera GT (or an Enzo or Atom for that matter) "sporty" should be punched in the mouth. It's not a "sporty" car, it's a sports car. Sporty is a made up catagory of vehicle that doesn't place performance as a top priority, but is more fun than driving a dump truck.

Oops....supercar :)

Do you even understand how a car works and what goes into making it "fast"? Obviously you don't because you can't compare a Lotus to a Honda Civic, type R or not, just because something like a Lotus Exige has a 4 cylinder doesn't mean it makes it the same as a Honda, not even close, that 4 cylinder is highly tuned and superchared, I'm not even going to go into the things like power/weight, or suspension, etc.

Wow, I thought Honda fanboys are bad, but not this bad.

Exige uses toyota 4 cylinder engine (from a Celica) and it is not supercharged.
Sir, I think it is YOU who doesnt know what makes a car fast. I definetly would pick civic type R over exige any day, for daily driving/cruising. Exige is made purely for the track, it doesnt have anything power, no radio, hard racing seats. Basically a motorcycle with 4 wheels.. And sporty by definition doesn't have to be a road-legal race car, which is basically lotus is.

Yes the Miata comes across as effeminite, but I don't konw a single driving enthusaist that doesn't get a huge smile driving the Miata. It's incredibly responsive, honest, and you can hang some crazy slip angles without getting into danger. I'd definitely put it in my top 5 "fun to drive" cars.

SCCA Spec Miata is also one of the most enjoyable amatuer racing series to drive in or watch - they are very competent little cars.

Ditto to that. As a four-time Miata owner with over 200,000 miles in them (and countless hours on the auto-x track) I can say that I enjoyed driving them far more than any of the more expensive stuff I've driven.

Actually you are wrong the Exige is supercharged...and the Exige Cup also is.

"With a supercharged and intercooled high revving engine producing over 240 hp and over 170 lbft of torque, the Lotus Sport Exige 240R reaches 60 mph in less than 4 seconds and 100 mph (160 km/h) in less than 10 seconds before topping out at 155 mph (249 km/h). At this top speed the advanced aerodynamics produce 113 kg of downforce increasing grip, stability and safety."

Second we aren't talking about a daily driver, we are talking about high performance cars, which you just proved my point, the Exige is.

So you "sir" (LOL) are completely wrong, you can STFU now.

No, the Exige is not...at least not the Exige sold in the US...nor the base Exige sold elsewhere...

From "Exige in Brief:"

Mid-mounted, transverse, 1796 cm³, 2ZZ-GE engine, Metal
Matrix Composite (MMC) & aluminium lightweight and compact
construction, 4 cylinders in line, water cooled, naturally aspirated
with double overhead camshafts exploiting a Variable Valve Timing
& Lift-intelligent (VVTL-i) system, rocker arms with low friction
followers, 4 valves per cylinder, multi-point sequential fuel injection,
electronic ignition and electronic throttle control

Whenever I hear sporty, it automatically sets off an alarm. You never hear rear drive cars refered to that way, it's always FWD compact economy cars with fender flares and giant wheels. I drive a mid engined, rear drive, turbocharged 2 seater for a daily driver and calling it "sporty" would be offensive.

This thread is retarded.

First off stop and think about it -- nobody called those cars sports cars. They called them sporty- why? Because with a good set of tires you can toss them around and have at least a little fun with them. Swap your suspension out and it's even more fun.

You guys watch way too much initial d.

Nah, you're alright mate

I guess we are talking about different things, the new Exige is supercharged, the older ones are not. Atheus and I were discussing a new Exige and a new type R.

A Miata is actually a real sports car, it is a rear drive two seater with near perfect weight distribution. You may look effiminate, but what does that say about the Honda with thousands of dollars into suspension or wheels that can't keep up around the track?
