when did intel start locking the PII's?

The 333 was the first cpu to have the multipier totaly locked. Before the 333 there was only a upper limit to the lock. ie: the 333 were locked at 5x66 but you could run them at 4x100. i heard some of the later 333's were locked completely.

Pentium 233MMx's were locked, and later versions of the P200MMx and 166MMx's were also locked... It was easy to tell them apart the unlocked ones had that ceramic coating on them...

Most if not all the older Klamath's were unlocked completely, and some Deschutes' were as well, however I believe all 350's and above were locked.
