Damn learn something new every day?? when did this happen? and how as this impacted service/quality....

I really am not a SAAB fan, but I did work in a SAAB dealership for a while and one thing they did well was treat the customer right, but then again if you were getting bent over like that for a car you should be getting decent service!!

Thanks

Hmmm, it wasn't all that long ago. Maybe 2-6 or so years? I'm not really sure myself. It could even be longer than that.

GM first started to show an interest in SAAB around 1989. Last year they bought the rest of SAAB that they didn't own from an investor and own it lock, stock and barrel.

man, the car companies are all coming down to just 1 or 2 brands now. Ford bought Land Rover from BMW (and was in talks with BMW about a merger/buyout of BMW by ford a little while ago) Now I learn about GM and saab, how strange...

I'm pretty sure that the Saab 9-3 was the first GM Saab (developed with GM and sharing componants with GM owned Opel), so GM has had a majority share since at least a year or two before the 9-3 was released.

GM owns 100% of:
Cadillac
Pontiac
Chevrolet
Buick
GMC
Oldsmobile
Saturn
Hummer
SAAB
Adam Opel (continental Europe, Asia)
Vauxhall (UK)
Holden (Australia)

GM also owns portions of the following companies:
20% of Fiat
~30% of Isuzu, Suzuki, and Subaru
One of the last three they recently bought the remaining shares of; I can't remember which one though.

That's why they're the world's second largest company.
