When did emo become synonymous with goth ?

When I was in high school, emo was
like hardcore kids but not the jock-style tough ones


And there were goth kids back then, too.
Black makeup, hair, etc ... suicide poems .. whatever
They all listened to the Cure, Skinny Puppy, and nine inch nails.


Anyways, today, it seems these goth kids are now called emo.

When did this happen?

I thought emo was the big glasses "I make myself look like this because no one cares" look. In actuality, it isn't determined by what you look like but how you react.

Emo = cries at any little thing, like in effowe's link. "I saw the chalk dust billowing up and I just had to start crying... I'm really hurting a lot"

Goth = thinks of death a whole lot, may ****** bats

I guess you can be both really, goth kids have become so fvcking emo now

I too was perplexed by this. After thinking about it for a while I came up with a way of describing the two.

Goths want to kill everyone and themselves.

Emos just want to kill themselves.
