I just don't understand why littering is a crime except when it comes to smokers?
I don't understand why anti-smokers always make comments like this as if smokers think they're above the law when it comes to littering. It's true you see smokers flick their butts in the street usually without any consequences, but by the same token when was the last time you saw someone get cited for dropping their gum wrapper on the ground or tossing or Wendy's cup out of their car window? I'm not saying that makes it right, but non-smokers litter also. In my 25 years of being alive, I've never witnessed a person being fined for littering and I've seen people toss McDonald's bags full of their fast food trash out of their car.
And yes, tossing your cigarette butts of out the window is considered littering. A driving instructor was talking about it once and said that in Texas you could be fined up to $500 per piece of litter, so if a cop happens to catch you toss four butts out the window, then you could be fined up to $2000.
That being said, yes I'm a smoker, but I also always try to smoke in an area away from others when I'm in public and I look for a trash bin with an ashtray when I'm done.
