when changing from organic to synthetic oil do you have to perform a flush?

Thanks, I've been leary of it since it has come on the market and I have heard of problems in the begining. Now it's popularity is making me reconsider, although I didn't like the cost of the case I just bought, jeez that stuff is expensive!

The cost is indeed expensive. You might consider a natural/synthetic blend, which will give you much of the benefit at a fraction of the cost. Also, you should determine if it's worth the expense for your particular vehicle.

well it's a 2001 mustang. I love the car, and am thinking about the possibility of performance upgrades, and plan on having this car for a long time. I like to treat my car good and from what I hear this is one of the better ways to pevent leaks when it gets old. my old car was an 88 taurus and lets just say it leaked like a siv, and died just after I got my mustang.

I disagree, blends give you very little synthetic. You'll get more synthetic for less money if you buy 3 quarts or dino-juice and 1 of synthetic and mix them yourself.

Flushes are bad, the synthetic will clean your engine gently over time.

just change the synthetic a little earlier a couple times than you normally would. ie if you plan on leaving the synthetic in for 10,000 miles, the first time change it out at 3500, the second time change it out at 7000. just so you get rid of all the regular oil.

Hmm...I'm kinda afraid to switch to synthetic. My car's been running dinojuice for the last 16 years & the engine is in GREAT shape...hate to really mess with that? Do you guys think it would be worth messing with?

Edit: should add that it has just over 100k miles on it, although only 50k on this engine (upgrade, no damage).

Well out of the taurus, 2 F-150's an F-250 diesel and an explorer, the taurus is the only one to ever develop a leek and also it is the only one purchased used. On top of that it took 285,000 miles to start, and another 75,000 miles to die. I certainly have no complaints from ford, I know others have, but for some reason I think it might have to do with people looking to change their oil every 10,000 miles or so, stuff like that. When I switch over I still plan on doing it every 3,000, so I'm not expecting problems here.

A friend has used a blend in his nissan since it had 30k on it. (He bought it used) Now has 300k+. No way to tell if that has made the difference, but it sure didn't hurt.

I use mobil 1 in my vehicle, with a mobil 1 filter as well. I'll let you all know how its worked out in about ten years.

Most oil these days is almost as good as the synthetics, the manufacturing process has drastically improved over the last 2 decades.
