When can I stop worrying about MB/CPU temps?

I've been running my new PC for a week and the CPU runs around 38 C at idle and goes up to 49 C when running Toast for a good amount of time. There are two other temp sensors and the first stays at 21 C and the other ranges from 27 to 30 C depending on load. Can I assume that the cooling is fine and get onto something else besides watching the numbers? I also notice that the voltage stays constant with my chip so I assume that means the PSU is working.

I would try to get a better h/s & fan. That should make your worries go away. Also, how many fans are you running and where?

38*C idle? My bro's 1.2gHz runs that much under load :) His idles at 26*C with an Alpha PAL8045 + weak 80mm fan. I'd suggest a cooling upgrade. You gotta look at the case's airflow, CPU cooling, GPU cooling, HD cooling, etc... If you think I'm going overboard, then you're in the wrong forum, my friend :D The 2nd thermistor is your case ambient temp which is pretty cool. The 3rd is your chipset temp, which seems good as well.

Wrong forum? So where should I go for a good answer seeing how unless you run at absolute zero, it's just not good enough :) Anyways, I really don't care to overclock, I just want to know if the chip will fry out in a year or not. Past system that I've owned didn't have readings and they lasted for up till this day. I guess since they are there to watch, I've been watching them a little more, but I'm not certain as to what is acceptable.

Well that statement was obviously a load...... unless his room temp is like 15

er...

I don't think you need to worry about new hardware. You could probably reduce that differential a little bit with lapping and ASII thermal paste if you wanted to.... and probably reduce overall with a new HSF, but you shouldn't see any instabilities with temps maxing out at 49.

Hmmm...26*C = 78.8*F
According to the AT article, a 43W heat load with the 8045 produces a 11.2*C temp raise over ambient temp under the best of conditions, your bro's case temp then must be at 14.8*C = 58.6*F
A weak Papst fan has a 20.6* temp differencial, which would make the case temp at 5.4*C = 41.7*F
I find your bro's temps a little hard to believe, I am sure that his mb monitor is reporting those temps, but they are hardly accurate.

Back to the original question, 38*C idle, 49*C under test is excellent and your cooling is just fine.

I think your temps are perfectly acceptable. With my new HS/HSF, and ASII I get 46 idle. You should be fine.
