When can I get the Throughbred CPU?

Wonder if anyone can give any dates...

Was gonna get the AthlonXP 1800+, 'cos I first thought the Throughbred will start at 2100/2200+ which would be too expensive, then I saw somewhere else that it'll start at speeds of 1800+, and if that's true, it would be pretty silly for me to get a regular AthlonXP 1800+ now.

Not sure, but it will be a little while longer yet.

I'm sure someone around here like AGodspeed will be able to answer this question more accurately though :)

Right. I think they will be released simultaniously at 1800+ through 2100+ or 2200+. I would link by the end on the month they will be out. But I by no means know for sure. I just hope it's pretty soon.

Well, my theory is that AMD will (finally) launch the Desktop T-Breds on Monday to counter Intel's launch of 533fsb P4's but, launching doesn't mean you can get it then. I'd say at the earliest, you will be able to buy T-Breds by the end of May

why does amd do that? when intel launches a chip, not only is it available but oems usually already have those systems for sale. amd announced the t-bred mobile like a month ago but you still cannot get one. isn't that what they call a paper release?

actually, in the above thread the 533fsb p4 can already be obtained... even BEFORE they've been announced.

From what I've heard, the new Thoroughbreds won't be that big of a deal. They'll be just like the Palominos except manufactured using a 0.13 micron process.
Of course, this does offer a few advantages, such as running cooler, and I imagine they'll have a bit more overclocking headroom. But out of the box, a Thoroughbred 2200+ won't be any faster than a Palomino.
However, it appears that the Barton core should be considerably faster, with either a 384 or 512k onboard cache, and perhaps a few other improvements (a 166 or 200MHz FSB would be nice :) ).

I think Intel is more abusive of the annouce a product and then begin shipping it a month later than AMD. When AMD launches a product, it is usually
available for all to buy. You can't get the mobile processor because it takes OEMs much longer to integrate a new processor into a notebook than
it does a desktop because of the notebooks tightly integrated design and need for more testing.

for instance? i can't think of any examples in the past two years.

that was true in the past. but not any longer. amd has been saying for a while now that the hammer will be out this year. but now they are saying it will "ship" this year, and be available in q1. i have no doubt that they'll have some big announcement at the end of this year, but you won't actualy be able to get one for a few months afterwards. (just like they did with the t-bred.) it's like they are already planning ahead for a paper release.

that's bs. besides, intel announced their mobile p4, and you could purchase a p4m notebook that day.

Alright, maybe T-Bred won't be launched, but AMD has got to release a speed increase of an Athlon XP if they can in order to compete because 533fsb is a decent boost, plus an extra 133MHz in the 2.53Ghz part. Thats kinda what I meant was AMD would be countering it with a speed boos.t
