when burning pc locks

I installed a burner on a Legend V motherboard with a Pentium II 233 processor. It installed fine and I put a full version of nero 5523 on it. the problem is that whenever i burna cd the pc locks up at between 6 and 10%. Sometimes I get a bluescreen othertimes it is completely just frozen. PC works fine for everything else. Does anyone have any suggestions to what might be the problem here. I am open to any suggestions.
 
Well most burners now call for cpu power and a fast HDD. I think you might have just the basic requirements to run a burner? no? Are you accessing your HDD or multitasking while it's burning?

Have you tried copying an image to the HDD 1st?
 
I am not doing anything else on the pc at the time it is burning. I have tried copying to the ahrddrive first and dies even faster. There is about a gig of free space on the hard drive which should be fine and there is 128mb of ram which in 98 should be fine. do you think possible there is not enough power supply power to run this? cpu is a PII 233, I would think that would be enough.
 
Hmm.. well beats me. I know my dad had a cyrix 300 mhz, and he has a lot of trouble burning, even with a slow external burner.

Double check and see the system requirements for the burner, if you haven't already.
 
It may be Nero. I installed Nero on a PC after installing a new burner, since the old burning software installed did not recognize the new burner. The combo works although the owner now reports that the PC slows down when he's burning CDs. With his previous burner using EasyCD, he's able to do other work while burning - the new burner with Nero, he can't. This is on a 700MHz Athlon, 128M rig. Do you have any other burning software you can try?
 
I am doing a cd copy from cdrom to cdrw. i do have other burn software i can try. it is the generic stuff that came with the burner. maybe we should give that a shot. thanks a lot.
