you may want to offer a few more choices. Bonds will likely play another 4.25 years. at that point. Sosa may have already passed Mays and there is an outside shot that Griffey or Palmeiro may do the same.

Maybe in another thread. You should go check.

At any rate, I think that Bonds will probably play at least two more years after this one. If he finishes the season with say 615-620 home runs and can hit 50 for each of the next two years, that will put him around 715-720. I have a hard time believing that he will get that close to the record without wanting to break it.

I say Bonds, Aaron, Ruth, Mays. A-Rod and Griffey Jr (if he can stay healthy) may have something to say about that though.

Wow, what a waste of tissue, and organs! I have no respect for people who decide that a thread is theirs to make some sort of insulting comment to those who actually want to talk about the issue. It is no surprise that you embody so many loathsome qualities and ideals (Pat Buchanan supporter, Israel ergo Jew hater, atheist/ religion hater.) I think your user ratiing may dip another .01.

I agree in some ways that he is overrated. In the 90's he was named the player of the nineties and I thought they totally shafted Bonds. However, Griffey is now underrated for his D, and is now thought of as a clubhouse cancer which is an unfair title to put on any player so that has taken him down a peg in the eyes of John Q. Public. However, you can't deny what he has done: a high OBP year in year out, and a high slugging percentage in pitchers parks. If he can overcome his injury afflictions, he can defintely average 45 homers a year for a few years, which would put him in 660 territory by the time Bonds retires.

How can you objectively call Jr Griffey overrated? Look at his career numbers once. .296 lifetime avg, 460+ HRs, not to mention his TEN gold gloves, and he's what, 32 yrs old? Easily the best position player of the 1990's.

Not liking him is one thing but calling him overrated is ridiculous. He's had 2 terrible years(this year and last), mostly due to injury which is beyond his control,,he's been pretty durable for much of his career. The guy could retire in 10 minutes and he'd still be a lock for Cooperstown.

Stat wise, here are the top 4 most similar batters at age 31:
Frank Robinson (924) *
Hank Aaron (877) *
Mickey Mantle (858) *
Eddie Mathews (848) *

Sure is overrated. Yup.

Injury prone - definitely. Overrated - I don't thinks so. He has 465 HR's. He'll be 33 in November. If he can stay healthy he'll have a real shot at breaking Mays, Ruth and Aaron's records. The new stadium in Cincy has a very short right field wall, the Reds have some guys to hit around him (Kearns, Dunn, Casey) and I think he has a real shot at being in the top 3-5 on the all-time list.

Don't forget the second they start testing for Steriods and other drugs their HR totals will drop like a rock.

Look at sosa before he swelled up and after. The second they stop cheating, is when we REALLY get to see what they can do.

Aaron and Ruth are the true kings, they did it without steriods and other inhancers.

They need to put a * beside anybody that catches mays, ruth or aaron.

You would fit right in at Salem, Mass circa 1690.
