From the blog entry linked in the video:

By the way, Starlings are just about my least favorite bird, living up to their scientific came (Sturnus vulgaris). Non-native, and introduced into NYC's Central Park over 100 years ago by some Shakespeare freaks (seriously), they are now widespread across the U.S. and a major nuisance.

Stupid Shakespeare <shakes fist>

Growing up in the 80's in California we used to see flocks like that all the time. Probably 10 times more than that even. They would all land on the powerlines. Thousands and thousands of them sitting there. It was always a site to see them flying. I just thought it was normal everywhere. Then one year, years later I realised I hadn't seen them in years. They all just dissapeared. Kind of sad. I wonder where the all went. Maybe their nesting grounds were ruined wherever they came from or migrated from. It was a part of my childhood that vanished.

We also used to get thousands and thousands of seagulls that would come in from the coast when the storms were coming in. They would swarm in huge circles high in the air above our school. We would watch them all recess and lunch.

Birds are dumb.

I would hate to see that flock flying at me after I washed my car though.

I've seen a few flocks that big here in Utah over the years, but only in flight. I've never seen then all try to land on something at once...

Here where I live I see those flocks of starlings. They seem to only group up like that during the cold months and then during the summer they are all split up looking for their own places to nest
