some of the mishandles are getting old and annoying

also, for that xbox 360 official thread, posts number over 3K. so it takes forever, I mean, forever, like over ten minutes to scroll through all those freakin' pages just to get to the last available post...

I, for one thing, am not impressed with the forum technology compared to other forums which have much stronger interfaces for user-efficient browsing.

i'd like to see this fixed, with the option of a link on threads, jumping to the first/last page and the option to select a tab that brings a scroll down list of which page # you would like to view, and also according to post number page.

problem and possible solution.

then go to one of the sites you like better and stay there. no one is making you post here, and many would probably enjoy it more if you took my advice.

The Anandtech mods need to regulate threads with 500 posts or more, because they tend to tax up our servers and are becoming far too difficult to keep up and moderate.

Like for example, any thread with 500 posts or more needs to be locked, and if necessary, a continuation of the previous thread can be made.

i'd like to see this fixed, with the option of a link on threads, jumping to the first/last page and the option to select a tab that brings a scroll down list of which page # you would like to view, and also according to post number page.

I don't think Anandtech plans to upgrade to the latest forum software anytime soon, right now managing the forums are on their lowest priority list.

An upgrade is in the plans for the future, but as Duality mentioned it's pretty low on the list. There's a lot going on behind the scenes and we're working towards improvements, but it will happen.

What other sorts of things can we expect in the way of improvements if the forum isn't going to be upgraded?

BTW, thanks for what you guys do.

I don't understand why scrolling is a problem, because you can set the number of pages and posts to be displayed in your personal options. If a thread has alot of posts, just click the "last" link in the menu. I can see no reason why any thread should be locked because of length. How would forcing a second thread on the same subject improve anything?

Dare we hope that one of the improvements you're working towards is a functioning search? Please, please, pretty please. :)

Well, I'm going to be working on the replacement servers. It's time to retire the old APPRO's as well as bring in yet another database server, so we have some beefy hardware to replace that with. These changes won't effect the frontend much at the moment, but it's paving the way for the future. We are still in discussions on how to best handle these long awaited features, but we should have most, if not all of those concerns sorted out first quarter.

It's great to hear that you guys are making plans for the future to improve the site and forums. I'm definately looking forward to seeing that happen. Making the transition over to the newest version of FuseTalk would be a great start, if that happens to be one of your main goals for the site.

It's not an easy task to migrate one of the busiest forums on the internet. They can't do upgrades a couple times a year.

Then there is always the group of people that bitch about the upgrades because they are old fashioned.

The only problem I think there is IMO is what is called user error...lol

Personally though I have had no problems with the search function because I messed with the search aparatus when i first joined.....

Several things that will make your searches more productive...
Learn to spell what your looking for correctly...
Sometimes if you are looking for a specific thread what I have done in the past is to insert name of item in my search engine and alot of times your regular search engine will eventually lead you to anands site...

eh. i've gotten so used to these forums.

it's been the same over the last 5 years.

change? it's not going to happen. i mean they give you the option of changing the color... err...

the only thing i'd like to see is the ability to post pictures directly into a post. we know it's possible (look at hot deals stickies posted by AT deal finder).

argh. that'd be SWEET!

Not cool. The OP was expressing frustration in the appropriate forum. I sensed no disrespect. He made his points and suggestions to address deficiencies. I hope you are not appointing yourself to moderator. Let's leave the forum police to others.

No, that would be a nightmare for the Mods to police.

not really

you'd just need a "report a post" feature so that members can bring objectionable material immediately to a mod's attention ....;)

.... like modern forums have :p

:D

and we really NEED more emoticons

No.

That opens up all kinds of issues, security issues from hotlinking not withstanding.

Exactly. What does "I have had no problems with the search function because I messed with the search aparatus when i first joined" mean? And anyone who thinks the search problems are from user error just isn't thinking.
