When are USB 3.0/SATA 6.0GB mobos going to become more common?

I'm looking to upgrade my current rig (Abit IP35 Pro, Q6600, DDR2-1066, X25-M), preferably to a X58 mobo with USB 3.0/SATA 6GB. LGA 775 went obsolete not too long after I got my Q6600, so I'm hoping to get a slightly longer-lasting standard, but it looks like NewEgg only has 4 models, three of which are $300, which is a little too pricey for a mobo, in my book.

Any idea when USB 3.0/SATA 6 are going to become standard features?

LOL on your board being obsolete. Everything is obsolete the second you buy it. As soon as you do they come out with something better and/cheaper. You accept it. Your Q6600 still rocks. I'd say that in a year that the newer USB and SATA specifications will become mainstream. As for now your Q6600 does just about what any new 1366 chip can do. If you don't want to spend ~$300 then just buy that $40 add-in card from ASUS that gives you USB3.0 and SATA6. You still have to have the other parts that can take advantage of those faster speeds so if you truly want to adopt it's gonna cost you a lot more than $300.

Does it matter? What if socket 1366 came out with the original Pentium 4 and you have an ancient motherboard that can take AGP cards, uses DDR, has USB 1.2 and does not have SATA ports? Would you want to pop in the latest Gulftown six core CPU into such a board?

For some reason everyone wants a "future proof" motherboard. Many of them will later admit that they usually ended up replacing the motherboard when they replaced the processor for a variety of reasons.

When Intel and AMD makes them standard features of their chipset. It might be end of this year or beginning of next year - don't remember exactly. Anyone have a link?
