When are the next handhelds replacing the DS and PSP?

Even if it isn't a completely new system, we're at the very least overdue for a revamp... DS Ultralite or something...I don't think they'll ditch the dual screen format, but I do think they'll beef up the specs and features - and like with the GB Color, GBA, and even the Wii, it's own unique games could very well require the newer system, yet be perfectly backwards compatible with the DS

Let's see... the Gameboy Color uses a z80 CISC processor

Gameboy Advanced uses an ARM 7 RISC processor and the z80 as a coprocessor to maintain BC with the Gameboy Color (performs similarly to the 68k Processor on the SNES)

Nintendo DS uses an Arm 9E processor and an ARM 7 co-processor to maintain BC with the Gameboy Advanced (performs similarly to the N64)

Following Nintendo trends, the next system:

DSII uses a processor equivalent to the PowerPC 750CXe processor and an ARM 9E coprocessor.

It seems like Nintendo really likes lean processors that are good at number crunching that tend to do more at a low mhz but aren't as good at general processors in terms of branch predictions and simultaneous threading.

man they wont' make a better performing DS, just a smaller, lighter one if that. DS has very few games that wouldn't bore a guy like me.

PSP is a great, solid piece of hardware but the graphics are kinda shitty and the library is kind of mediocre. But it goes to show that their next gen, the psp2 or w/e will have better than ps2 graphics and capabilities, then they can just rehash the 1000+ ps2 titles and nobody will complain. I sure wouldn't. The PSP just goes to show that they're getting there and there is no stopping Sony from creating a handheld ps3 (or better) in about 10 years. (psp2 in 2011 and psp3 in 2018 or so)

maybe microsoft can get in on the handheld market. Make a portable XB180 with the specs of an xbox1 or something. Portable halo2 wifi ftw.

M$ also has a top sooper sekret project for a XBox portable. So far the best they have come up with is a tablet that operates so hot, that it burn the user hands. The record for the latest version is 0.360 seconds before the user drops it, and has to be treated for 3rd degree burns. System $500, games $60, although development still continues since the games are one-time-use due to scratching.

thinking about it, the psp came out in 2005, which was 4 years or so after the gba. But it's light years ahead in technology and almost meets the specs of a ps2 which came out 5 years prior. Will we see a portable ps2.5/3 in 5 years? It's possible.
