im about to shell out alot for a x800xt, and im wondering if i should just stick with a ti 4600 and wait until the next generation of cards come out. i also dont like spending alot of money on a video card, i spent $100 on my ti4600, and the difference was well worth it from my 16mb vanta.

i could wait a couple more months, where i could spend the same amount of money for a much faster card.

You'll probably be able to get a 9700 Pro for 100bucks from someone next year when the new gen comes out.

That's not a big amount to spend for any gaming card and you are pretty much lucky you got the Ti4600 for that price. The Ti4200 is still 115.

The R520'll be out in November of 2005. The R600'll be out in April, 2007. The R700'll be out October, 2008. The R800'll be out in April, 2010...you get the picture. A brand new line-up every 18 months or so.:)

You should upgrade the ti4600 to at least a 9700 pro or something. If you want to play some of the upcoming games in the next year or so, you should upgrade. Personally, I am getting an X800 XT PE, and that will last me until Longhorn with DirectX 10 and shader model 4.0.

Geesh! I wish I could have gotten my ti4600 for $100.00! I bought mine when they first came out. I thought $380.00 was a good price.

I am assuming your looking to get an AGP version of the X800 XT. The only reason to wait would be to get it cheaper later.

If your thinking about going PCIe, well that involves a whole lot more than just a vid card change.

Good luck.

No offense, but that's a bit silly.
$380 for a slightly higher clocked Ti4400 or even Ti4200?
I bought a Ti4400, because it was just a slightly lower clocked Ti4600, and a fair bit cheaper.
Thing 6800GT vs 6800Ultra (This was just after the GF4's had been released, and the 4200's weren't as good overclockers as they ended up being).

$380 is a rip off, like $500 is a rip off for a 6800Ultra when a 6800GT is $400.

Best price/performance card at the moment is the 6800GT, without too much doubt (especially given the gouging going on with X800XT's).

I would look at one of those before an X800XT. It'll be cheaper (by probably ~$150)
The cards won't drop in price a huge amount in the next month or two, and the 6600GT's/X700's won't be around until Nov I expect (for AGP versions).
