When are the good computer sales of the year

You know, when people line up in front of retail stores beginning at 11:00pm the night before to be the first to save 75% on a $10 pack of CD-Rs. Actually, I'm a little more ambitious, and would like to get a cheap laptop as a gift for my uncle who would only need it for going online and using MS Office. Around $500 or lower after rebate would do. So when are some of the best sales of the year, and when is the next big sale? If I remember correctly, the next one is after thanksgiving, but I'm not sure.
