When are the 12TB drives actually shipping to consumers?

Hello,

I've read some articles about the 12TB drives coming out soon. Some mention them being released this quarter. I was curious if anyone knew when the HGST or Seagate 12TB drives might actually be in stock for consumer purchase. I realize they often go to big companies before consumers sales begin.

Should be anytime now... They will be expensive when they first arrive though obviously.
WD Red 10TB was also just released.

Thanks for the reply! Sweet Jesus those seem a tad over priced. I'm wondering how much they will be when Newegg or Amazon have them in stock. Many of SS equipment are reasonably priced but when they have items before they hit the market they are often astronomical. I'm wonder if that is to get people to go to their website and just look for something else.

lol, yeah. I bet they cost around $650-700 when they first hit Amazon. You can buy He10's for under $500 now from amazon.

I don't think so. Plus those 10TB reds cost nearly $400. I'd rather pay a little extra and have a real He10 with a 5 year warranty.
Pity. The 5400rpm Ultrastar He8 rebadges in the 8TB MyBooks are a great value!
(regardless of whether they are white-label or Red)

I heard that the drives in the 10TB WD Book are WD Blues. When I put together my home server I'm going with He10 drives and not messing with it.

But does WD actually make a 10TB, or is it He10 mechanicals like the whitelabel / Red 8TB?
Edit : Don't seem to see a 10TB MyBook - tops out at 8TB?

I just saw them at another place - googled the same model and went to shopping $660. My hope is they'll be about $100 less a month or so from now.

I saw someone do a tear down of what's inside. I'm guessing it was the 8TB model.

I've been told the Seagates should ship in the Fall - which I'll try to hold out for as it will add competition on the price.
