when are Solid state disks going to be common?

Just wondering what other peoples thoughts are on this
I remember my semiconductor teacher was blabing about how flash disks were going to make hard drives obsolete on even desktops within 5 years(it's been at least 5 years since then)
I read about FeRAM back then also howit was going to be big
just whatever happened to these?

maybe in 5 years... but then quantum computers will probly be common.
