cat6 will be required and it should be here soon. maybe a year or two.

For the consumer market it's useless anyway because our hardware can't even fill a Gigabit link.

Speak for yourself 😉 I've done 100 MB/s file transfers using consumer gear, so I think that just increasing the pipe at this point would give me an improvement. And at this point, additional tricks/effort could be worthwhile.

But this is moot, because the problem with 10 Gb is price, not speed.
