When a windshield is broken, can you tell if it was broken from inside or outside of the car?

My windshield recently spiderwebbed after a small accident. After the accident, myself and my passenger looked the car over in pretty close detail. The windshield was not broken at this time. I come back the next day (after drinking) and find that the windshield is spiderwebbed on the passenger side. Is there a way I can tell from which side the windshield was broken (inside or outside of the car).

Yeah...it was broken from the side the cracks are on....it is a two layer glass with plastic sheet in between.

It is probably chipped on the side from which it was broken. It should be apparent...
