When a thread is locked...

How can I tell when a thread is locked before I waste my time trying to enter a post on said locked thread?
Other forums have a lock symbol prominently displayed.
Another solution is just to delete the entire thread. Unless it's an important thread, then making it a locked (with lock symbol) sticky would be fitting.
 
If you have a thread open, you will see the lock on the upper left.

If you are in the sub category mode. The locks will displayed in front of each thread.

We do not delete threads here, but thanks for the suggestion.
