When a SSD uses up all write cycles, and is supposed to go into 'read only' mode...

Anyone know if there is a undocumented SMART attribute that signals that the drive is locked down? Like for example, you used up all the NAND's life, the unit is supposed to be read only, but, how does a end user know?

Is this a specific error condition?

SSD behavior for end of life changes dramatically depending on the maker. Check out techreport's SSD endurance experiement articles to see what happened when the various drives failed[1].
