the owner is paying for it out of the stock but there's really no way of tracking that sort of thing.

some places use those limiters and can compare how many drinks they should be getting out of each bottle but unles there's some gross error they're not going to notice nor care.

Plenty of alcohol is spilled and otherwise lost, so, yeah, there would be some shrink, but no one will notice or give a crap.

It's awesome knowning a bartender. Except for the fact that you rarely go anywhere else. Hard to pass up free booze.

I don't think the bartender was paying when he came by with a plate (whatever those server things are called) with 10 shots for us to drink...free.

Last time I got a drink from the bartender, a month or so ago, it was a pint of Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum for the low low price of £5. It was my 21st birthday at the time :D.

depends.

where i worked they weighed the bottles every nights and matched it against your drinks sold to get your pours. most of the time i could write off my comps, sometimes i paid.

I've never had a baretender buy me a drink. But when I used to frequent this one bar, the bartenders would always knock a few drinks off of the tab for me. Probably because I came there all the time and I tipped well. But I doubt they paid for them out of their own pockets.

It's either the bartender or whole establishment saying thank you for your business, come again.

stop going to crappy bars

Maybe he's one of "those" people at bars.

I have had many a free beers in town from bartenders but that is because I know them very well (should I be sad about that?!?).

I know a bartender at a restaurant/bar. We go there and get free drinks, and we also can get free food. At the end of the night we don't even get a tab.

However we do hook her up a lot and give her a huge tip. Last weekend there were 5 of us and we gave her $100 cash that went straight to her pocket.

I have no idea how she does it so that we can get free food as well. Drinks are understandable, but food? No clue how she works that but I don't ask questions.

It's the fall back place to go when I don't feel like spending much money on a night. It's also close by so I can cab to it.

Profit margins on mixed drinks can be as high as 2000%. So, no, they're not paying much.

Wow, some of you guys never get free drinks from bartenders?

Happens all the time here, I paid $10 bucks on New Years last year and probably got half a bottle of jameson for free along with some patron shots, everytime I would order a Jameson on the rocks the bartender would pour a shot for himself and for me and do it with me :p

With the amount of buybacks I get during a night, I sure as hell hope not. Otherwise that's one broke bartender.

On Mondays after bowling we'd all go to this place that we'd basically pay for one drink and the rest were free...its good knowing the bartender
Always got him back with hefty tips
