Hi,

I have a road hazard insurance which will not replace my dented wheel because the tire does not need replacement. I am in month 14 of an extended 60-month/60k warranty.

The replacement cost is at about $600/Wheel.

Any way that this is covered under warranty? There has not been an accident. My dealer is aware of this and is the one who diagnosed it/ deals with the insurance.

I reckon this is a hazard to drive with this. The dealer disagrees and says it's safe.

Any guidance?

Why would you hitting a pothole be covered under warranty??

I can't stand when people try to pull scams like this.

You hit a pothole. Man up and fix it.

It could be safe, we would need pics of the wheel.

$600 wheel? You drive a lambo or something?

$600 is a pretty standard price for an OEM wheel. That said, you should be able to get it fixed for under $150. That's the going price in SoCal for a quality repair.

In our city, if you document what pothole you hit and can prove its over a certain depth(go back and take pictures and measurements), the city will reimburse you for repairs, even before needing to go through insurance. Our roads suck so bad though.
If you run out of options, maybe ask your municipality.

Why is it a scam? He bought road hazard insurance and thought it would cover road hazard damage then asked if the warranty might cover it. Sounds shady to me.

I've never heard of a road hazard warranty that covers damage to wheels. I've only known them to cover tire damage.

Because road hazard insurance is for the tire, not the rim.

I don't see anyone trying to scam anyone.

He checked into his road hazard coverage. It only covers tires. Case closed.

Warranty coverage? Should be obvious, but no, they won't cover it. But if he's already been through the dealer, they would generally be glad to cover warranty repairs, since they'd be reimbursed by the manufacturer. So I don't really understand why you would ask a message board and not the dealer.

But back to insurance... Pothole damage _is_ often considered an accident and covered by insurance. Contact your insurance agent to get the definitive word on the matter.

Note the following:

Insurance questions: Ask your insurance agent, not the car dealership.

Warranty questions: Ask your dealership, not a public forum.

If the city won't pay to have it replaced, look at a wheel repair shop. I gave my new wheels some pretty nasty curb rash and they fixed it right up for like $150

Thanks guys. I will try my luck with NYS.

I am not scamming. In my home country this would be covered as it is apparent that the wheels are not fit for purpose, i.e. tri-state area roads.

I did look it up, FYG. I had 12month/12k miles on the wheels. That's now expired. Thanks for assuming the worst of a person you don't even know!
