Wheel/road noise

I bought a 2002 Subaru Forester this past weekend. Around 40-50 mph, I hear a whirring noise that appears to come from the right side of the car - could it be wheel bearings? Once I get over 60 or so, I dont hear it as much.

When you coast or if you apply the gas at 60? How many miles are on it? Oh, and congrats, I had an 02 Forester and loved it. I still miss it.

It is just shy of 68k miles. It starts around 40, and happens if I apply the gas at 60. How long did you have the Forester? Any long term issues I should be on the lookout for? When should I do the timing belt?

If you hit the brake does it go away?

It could be your bearings, or uneven rotors and something rubbing against the pad. That's what I have in my car on the front/left. It doesn't do anything but squeak at certain speeds and if I am not braking. When I get new rotors it will go away.

Imbalanced wheels? Allignment?

The pads were replaced recently. When I let off the gas it tends to go away.

I took it to the dealership, they are saying its not the wheel bearing. Its coming from inside the transmission and they would have to take the transmission apart to find the source - are they pulling a fast one on me??
