My dad had the tires replaced on my car about 6 months ago. I decided to rotate them today and one of the nuts are stuck... it was originally 3 but then i got two off by soaking it in wd40... now the last one looks like its stuck deep probably because whoever put them on used an impact wrench from hell. :( any suggestions? i dont wanna end up shearing this thing off :(

super penetrating liquid wrench... always works when i'm taking apart weed rollers that have been in the water for 5 months straight... should work for you.

rent an impact wrench if all else fails, probably only $12 bucks for an hour of use.

If you end up stripping it, you can always go to the hardware store and buy one of those what-ya-ma-call-its that you hammer onto the lugnut, and then use your tire iron on. They are reverse threaded to bite into the stripped lug-nut and help get it off.

Get a four-way lug wrench, put a piece of pipe on it and turn with quick motion rather than a slow tug. Works even better if you have two people with two pipes one pulling up and one stepping on the other side.

yeah pretty much... since it was rounded we just jammed a smaller socket into it and ended up jumping down on the pipe like 5 times...

I realize that boyracer had an impact wrench(was it 3/8 or 1/2 in drive ?) and situation is resolved but
For future reference, I have always found when using a cheater/breaker bar/tire iron to loosen the lug nuts- its more effective to pull up on the bar using your legs rather than to stomp down on it using your body weight-
Also- more chances of breaking something or injury when trying to jump on one end of a tire iron
It was a trick my father showed me when I was in high school and he saw me jumping up & down on the tire iron.
Just think of comparing your body weight to the amount of weight you can leg press.

Yeah mine were on like skanky bastards this weekend on the maxima and I had to use a very long extendable bar and deadlift all of the bolts off. Not a freaking chance in hell I'd have been able to do that if the tire went flat with the gear in the trunk.

Skoorb- yup- stock tire changing tools are great aren't they
which is why I have a long 1/2in breaker bar and section of steel pipe in my tool box and a 48in Hi-lift jack-
But I don't need those now that I have Milwaukee 18 volt cordless impact wrench (still need the jack though)

that was the first thing i was doing but gave up after awhile... maybe i shouldve kept going then... :D but yeah i was getting pretty tired... a simple tire rotation was taking a little tooooo long. :)

Had a nut frozen to my stud..had to break it off, local shop took an hour and $60 to fix it up. Wheelworks and other places charge twice that much.
