Just curious, there's a thread going on about the new viewsonic. I've played with a friend's ipaq, a clei and some palms and I don't know, paying hundreds of dollars to be able to play solitaire in full colour on the bus .. ???
Seriously though, how useful are these and how much do you use your's (and what for)?

I'm not making fun, I really want to know.

I'm still using my old HP Jornada that I got more than 2 years ago. I use it to keep track of all my appointments, deadlines, contacts and expenses. I also use it to take voice notes when I'm too lazy to write, jot down rough notes and diagrams, and also use the calculator program when I need to.

And sometimes, to pass time, I play chess and solitaire.

How long did it take you to get accustomed to using the stylus and the characters?
It'd be nice if I could take notes all the time. I frequently have earth-shattering ideas that can change the face of civilization only to forget them. It's possible that if i get a PDA it could change the world.

Reading Ebooks mostly. Sometimes as an alarm clock to tell me that I really need to get out of the house in order not to be late for work / meeting....

Battery operated paper weight seems to be the primary use for thses things..or a play thing for the "baby on board".

I'm afraid it is mostly another gadget to match all my other pretty silver things...I actually used it alot more in college, since I was often running to meetings and was rarely near my computer. Its great to keep track of school work and meetings when you are part of several organizations.

Now that I am working though, I rarely look at it, except to jot down notes when I am out, and to keep birthdays and such.

btw, the stylus and the type of writing is really easy to get use to. There are only a few characters which are less than intuitive. I don't think you will have a problem. Let us know when your revolution comes through. :)

Who said anything about a revolution? Who told you? I love the government!

What's it like reading ebooks on there? A lot of scrolling? Where do you get ebooks? They cost lots? How bout wireless stuff? If I have a wireless network at home, will this work with it? (I don't have wireless @ home and I don't think I'm gonna pay up so that i can surf on the john :) )

Not very long, the handwriting recognition system of a Windows-based PDA is much easier to get used to. It is more natural to the way you already write, and the newer versions make it all easier by allowing you to jot stuff all over the screen and the software will translate your handwriting and put them in the proper fields.

Of course, it isn't flawless, so when you really need to write something down quick, just open the Notes program and jot down your graffiti and worry about translating it later.

Yeah I use my PDA for that to. My PDA cost $.99 and I bought it in the stationary section of walgreens. Some would call it a notepad!

I don't think I'll actually buy a PDA until they are color with wireless internet and they have an OS that allows you the sort of flexibility you'd get with a laptop - ie, full blown able to load basically any program.
