There is a "generic" speed test on the XBox dashboard.

Go Into XBOX LIVE from the Generic Dashboard.
Select " Network Setup", then press "connect".
Let it finish doing its thing. When it is done press the Y button...it shows you all 4 tests, up, down, latency and ping.

Time Warner RoadRunner - NYC: UL: 97 Kb DL: 3098 Kb L:98ms(101ms) P: 8/8

Bellsouth DSL: UL: 131 Kb, DL: 0 kb, L: 94 ms (99ms), P: 8/11

Second run I had 124 Kb, 826 Kb, 93 ms (98 ms), and P: 8/9

Ah I wondered waht that was. This is through ICS. I wonder if it has to do with my problems and dropping games, although I seem to experience it no more than other people. I should try it direct to my DSL modem and see if it's better. If it's much better I will need a router that tallgeese has been hounding me for.

your ping tests show P: 8/11 and P: 8/9 ... 11sent, 8 received ; 9 sent, 8 received respectively.. this will DEFINITELY cause problems.. as will DL: 0 kb from your first test.. altho that might be a fluke... noone has ZERO download ;)

It was a fluke, since all of them now are not zero for downloads. However, going straight through to my modem without the ICS turned on I'm getting the same loss; 8/9 or 8/10. Ah that sucks. I just pinged yahoo with a 0% packet loss over 50 packets. I mean clearly it has to be my ISP, since yours isn't doing it, but at the same time I can ping a site endlessly without problem, so I guess my ISP is having some problems with XBL.

I am able to host games and normally play games but I do see people drop out a lot. I drop out a good bit too of course...

hmm.. i think the ping time is to their main site in seattle... maybe there's a bad hop somewhere along the lines that you connect to?

Its not really your ISPs fault, its more the internets fault that anything. It would only be your ISPs fault if you are dropping packets on the first 2-3 hops. Since it doesnt give a detailed(Im assuming) trace route, you can't tell where the problem is. More than likely its the 6th or 7th hop, right before you get to the various MS servers(you go through atleast 2 MS servers, maybe 3 I dont know). Try pinging zone.msn.com my bet you will have packet loss somewhere along that line. Yahoo is in a different state, its not going to take the same route to get to yahoo.com as it would to xboxlive.

You're probably right. However for zone.msn.com I've got a 0% also!

First...call 1-800-4MY-XBOX.
This is the MS support number for Xbox.
Their troubleshooters may be able to help you pin down and eliminate some things before you call your ISP.

Depending upon what you find out, you'll prolly want to call your ISP Skoorb to at least let them know about it.
They might have some ideas...highly doubtful since it's BellSouth, but still worth a shot)

BTW: Do you rent your modem or did you buy it?

Kb means kilobits; KB means kilobytes...
