Whats your take on the SK-7 compared to the SLK800 ?!?!

I just plumped for a SK-7 from overclockers.co.uk as it was 22 pounds (about $35) and the SLK800 was, get this, DOUBLE the price at 44 pounds ($65)! I heard the two were also pretty similar in performance, and both run 80mm fans (im upgrading from my old SK-6 with Delta 7200rpm 'screamer').

Will this heatsink be able to handle the my up and coming 2500+ chip with heavy overclocking? Im running a magma-feulled 'old style' T-bred 1400 at the moment. And also, will the Papst 80mm fan pushing 40cfm at 33db be good enough for cooling, and is 33db quiet? Quite a few questions I know, but thanks in advance!

the slk800 is about 2-3 degrees cooler... now worth the extra $30 in your case. I have one with the TMD fan and i have it on a slight overclock from 2500+ to 3000+ maybe i could slap on a better fan and could go 3200+ like most people. the YS tech adjustable is what i see most people are using. :)

The SK-7 doesnt have the mounting holes for any TMD Fans. Personally, I think someone should do a round up of all the current ThermalRight heatsinks. All the version can become confusing.

I agree, itd make it a lot easier, and use a low fan, medium fan and a high fan for each benchmark too! Any more info would still be appreciated, Im especially interested in feedback from people who have used the aforementioned Papst fan! :D

yes but thermalright includes the proper clips to mount it. :D i believe they do the same for the 800 and 800.

SK7 should do a good job. 33db is a little on the loud side, IMO. I had a 32db Panaflo H1a and it was too loud for me. The suggestion of a YS tech adjustable fan was a good one.

You guys think the YS-Tech adjustable would be a better choice over the Thermaltake Smart Case Fan 2?

Heh, ThermalTakes products are crap. Unless of course you just want a insanely high speed fan. :p Anyone want to do a huge thermaltake cooler round up? I want real world results however. On a non-overclocked processor comparred to the default AMD cooling solution :p

Someone did. Scroll down to "Air Cooling DIE Simulator C/W TEST RESULTS" most of the top is dominated by thermalright.

Not double the price for 1 or 2 degrees cooler, thats for sure. The difference is insignificant to me. :p

relatively happy w/ my sk7. altho, i wish it were doing a little better. then again, i am just using some original AS (those original tubes last FOREVER!!) w/ a zalman 92mm fan :) i get around 50C under full constant load, a couple deg less idle. room temperature varies from 23-30C.

Just to update, got my SK-7 up and running (used AS III, with possible a slightly too thick layer) and temps are showing around 45min -51max degrees with an 80mm 3000RPM 30CFM fan. Case temps are showing an admittedly high 35-40 degrees, the accuracy of which cant be verified but thats what VIA Hardware Monitor is telling me. How much of an improvement could I expect with a higer speed fan? Although bear in mind after giving up the Delta 'hairdryer' im now realizing how mad the noise drove me. What fan is the best compromise between noise and performance?
