Whats your take? Is my employer screwing me over?

I'll try to keep this as short as possible.

I've been working for this internet provider for 2 years now. I'm not "full time" since I'm still finishing up school. Now I understood full time to be anything over 32 hours but apparently to them its 40 hours. Now I work anywhere from 35-40 hours but not constant 40, so I get 0 holiday pay which really hurts and no vacation or sick days, so if I'm sick I'm still at work cause I can't afford to miss a day. I DO get 401k benefits but no insurance.

So, what do you guys think? Should I raise a stink with them? I know we only get 5 days of vacation a year and like 4 sick days, I'm looking to take 3 weeks off this summer to go do mission work in Africa and that would really hurt the bank account.

Thanks for reading and happy holidays 🙂

Read your state laws and "raise a stink" if they aren't following them.

However, if you are looking to take 3 weeks off then one of the benefits of being part time is your schedule flexibility. In my experience part time basically gets however much time off they want (within reason), while employees with paid vacation must stick to their paid vacation. So you might be sacrificing your 3 weeks.

Are you planning on quitting for that or are they going to let you take 3 weeks off to go to Africa and then come back?

Nope, not quitting, they are very flexible with everyone on time off, here which is real nice. I will check into the state laws on that though, never crossed my mind.

they can call it whatever they want, you can take it or leave it

you can talk to them, if they want you to stay on then maybe they'll hook you up

or not

Find out the laws. then go to the boss and let him know.

IF not then get a diffrent job. sounds like its a entry level so its not like you can't get another one.

Then don't kill the goose that laid the golden egg, so to speak. If they are being nice and flexible with you taking 3 weeks off don't tick them off by demanding to be made full time.

^^^ This is true. At the same time there are others who work as much as I do and get holiday pay, vacation etc. so, ya know, if your going to penalize me then penalize them.....

the part time status can also be because you're a student?

I think the fact that they are willing to let you go for 3 weeks and then come back is pretty nice, especially for a tech job. If you can just bring it up with your boss (maybe going full time when you come back) vs raising a stink now.
