What's your Partitioning Scheme?

I have a 10.2 GB hard drive, which is partitioned as such

C Drive: 2 GB, used for Windows XP
D Drive: 2 GB, used for Program Files
E Drive: 6 GB, used for Data

I don't install programs that often, so C and D drives don't fragment easily. I keep all my documents and stuff on E drive. Perhaps when I get a new computer a few years from now I will give the swap file it's own partition.

Any thoughts?
 
Right now it's just one. My C drive is 20GB and holds everything. I used to dual boot Win2K and RH7.1. It was C 15GB, D 5GB then.
 
I quit partitioning after reading on the FAQ's that it's just not worth the hassle. I have a 40GB hd and a 27GB hd. I'm willing to lose a few GB to have one large drive.
 
3 GB - Windows 2000
38 GB - Mostly Anime that hasn't been backed up to CDs, with some MP3s
35 GB - Games/Applications/Documents
 
Computer #1:
C: 6GIGs (WinXP and Programs)
D: 33GIGs (Music, Videos..)

Computer #2:
C: 15.5GIGs (WinXP)
D: 3.5GIGs (Win2K Advanced Server)
 
I have 4 100GB drives in RAID-0. All one big partition. In my old box I have 2 45 GB drives in RAID-0, all one big partition.
 
C: Used to be my Windows 98 partition, 2 gig
D: Mp3s, 10 gig
E: Windows xp, 4 gig
F: Applications, 12 gig
G: Games, 10 gig
H: Swap, 500Mb
I: Movies, 20 gig
J: Downloads, 5 gig
K: My Documents, 6 gig
L: Misc, 25 gig

That's about 100 gigs!!!
 
Just one 45GB partition with Win2K on it. I used to dual boot 2K/98, it was 2GB 98, 8GB 2K, 35GB everything else.

That FAQ is just one guys opinion that many here don't agree with.

My setup:

C: 10 Gig Win2k, system level programs, paging file, NAV, system utilities, etc
D: 30 Gig Program files, games, etc
E: 20 Gig Data. Downloads, updates, drivers, zipped archived files, etc

All are NTFS, no compression. Partitioning is a personal preference type thing. Everyone has their own preferences on what is best for them.
 

C: Drive: 4.4GB for Win2k Pro/Apps

2GB for BeOS 5.0.3

D: Drive: 8.4GB for mp3, documents, etc....

Only have a 15GB HD, need to upgrade :\

I've got Outlook Express and IE set to store my mail and favorites on D:. Much easier to reinstall the OS that way 🙂
 
I use to use very small partitions like yourself for my OS's and large partitions to install programs and files until I benchmarked my system with programs used that were on seperate partitions and found I was losing noticable performance.
Now I use 6GBs for my C: win98SE with programs, 6GB for XP and programs, and the rest is storage of files and backups on my 60GB drive.

Hmm... I'd have to disagree with that FAQ. First, partitioning isn't that hard - PartitionMagic or even Windows NT/XP's partitioning command line utility is pretty easy to use. Second - If my OS goes down, I don't loose my data. I just reformat the C: drive, reinstall windows, and I'm good to go.

One 5 GB slice for WinXP
One 45 GB slice for Windows programs, and mp3's and movies
One 10 GB slice for Linux&Linux programs.

I've never seen the point in having lots of different slices for everything, all I need is the ability to reformat my Windows parition without losing my data.

True, but I don't want to defrag a 60 gig hard drive when only 5 gigs need it.
 
i use to partition but its a pain and so is dual booting

just have more than one drive

and when you only have one drive partition it 50/50 like in an imac or laptop
