here's the deal.. i've currently got a pentium iii 600 (overclocked) and i was initially looking to upgrade that system to a p3 1 gig. but after looking at some prices (around $212 for the 1gig) i figured maybe an amd maybe cheaper. so i decided to price some stuff out, in addition i was thinking of adding up to 512 megs of ram and RAID.
AMD: $140 Epox 8K7A+ (Raid included)
2x $ 47 DDR Ram 256 each (512 megs)
$ 95 1 gig AMD tbird w/ 256k cache
Total: $329

Intel(upgrade): $ 75 Promise RAID
$ 47 256 RAM (i already have 256)
$212 P3 1 gig
Total: $334

as you can see, the AMD set-up is cheaper..but do you think it'd be a good idea to invest in the AMD set-up? what about the palamino (sp)? should i just hold off on the upgrade and wait? what do you guys think?

any input appreciated thanks!

the AMD is definitely a better investment than the intel, but you might want to hold off for the nforce, but if you want the AMD NOW, it would last you a long time. The AMD overclocks well too.
