what's your opinion on 110 VAC Powered fans in computer cases?

1)Is it dangerous?
2)Does it cause EMI ?
3)Does it move lots of air compared to a 12 vdc fan?

I think the answers to all three are yes.
Im curious, has anyone here tried to use AC fans...if yes, did they work out for you?

i read on this forum long ago the large (A/C type blowers) can damage computers due to the strong magnites useed in them.

Personally I've ran my PII-350 (originaly o/c 434, o/c 464 with neew ram now)

for 2 1/2 years without the case, and a 16 inch oscillating fan set on low.

dust build-up is a problem, however i clean it around eevery 3-4 months and only for cosmetic purposes... it ran for the first 8 months without being cleaned, with no performancee or tempature problems.

btw, i can't hear the fan due to the hard drives, the fan on the gf2mx and the PII fan that's been on it's last leg for 2 of the 2 1/2 years i've had it...

only 1 surviving case fan, for the power supply.

i've had no airflow problems (the massive amount of air moving just pushes it's way into every little nook and cranny of the case. in and out of the little holes and slits cut in it.)

the fan is conneected to the power supply the comp is on, that way you can't for get 2 turn it on.

sincee i've been useing the fan, i've not noticed the cpu temp to pass 84-f under max load. and that was last august on a day where it was 112 outside (alabama in agust is a killer)

normal temp without load is between 74/76-f

and yes... the more the A/C is turned up the colder it gets.

i opened a window by the comp the first window i had it and turn the oscillating fan on high. retail pII cooling had the cpu hit 55-f on boot

heh anyways, huge fans, yes, they are a problem, i havn't had a problem with this good sized 16 inch oscillating fan tho...

give it a try if you want, i've had GREAT luck with it
