What's your memory usage at startup ?

Hi guys...

I was just wondering : when you've just started up your pc, what's the memory usage ? Just the OS, no apps running...

I use windows 2000, and I've tried to disable all unnecessary services that sucked up my memory, but I get around 110 MB of memory used (shown in task manager) at startup.

here is the list of running services at startup:

Symantec Settings Manager
Symantec Event Manager
SAVScan
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Plug & Play
Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect
Protected Storage
Event Log
Workstation
Telephony (required for my DSL)
RAS-Verbindungsverwaltung (dont know the english term)
Network Connections
COM+ Event System

isnt much at all, huh?

my taskmanager shows this:

Explorer
ccApp (-> norton)
svchost
NAVAPSVC (-> norton)
ccSetMgr (-> norton)
svchost
services
ccEvtMgr (-> norton)
taskmgr
csrss
USDM (-> Epox Monitoring Tool)
winlogon
SAVSCAN
lsass
smss
System

does anyone know why all the same my memory usage (110 MB) is such high?

I use XP Home with all the visual lag stuff turned off. It's basically Win2k with some added stuff.

When I boot with just barebones stuff, about 78mb of memory is used.
When I boot normally, about 250mb used.

If I had to guess I would say the extra memory usage you are seeing is from Norton and that Symantec stuff. Norton usually takes around 25mb doesn't it? 78 + 25 = 103. Add some extra junk and it brings you up to your 110.

well i only have norton anitvirus 2004 installed, and yes it uses around 25 MB memory... minus the USDM monitoring tool ( 2 MB ) i still got 83 MB memory usage... thats imho definatly to much... imho it must be around 60-70 MB regarding that i disabled almost every services............

well i go into Task Manager > Processes and sum up all processes i got at moment exatly 55 MB.

if I then go to Task Manager > Performance it says ~ 150Mb

so which display is the correct for the memory usage???

.....................

if i substract the 25 MB (norton) from the above 55 MB (under Processes) it would be just 35MB ... but i doubt win2k only needs 35MB!!!

i found the leak, its norton antivirus 2004!!
i deinstalled it, and now i got only 70 MB memory usage after start up......

now i will install AntiVir and ok....
