What do you want to see? And try to be a little realistic... eg, no 18-300 f/1.8 super IS that weighs a pound.

Mine probably has to be a 50-135/150 f2.8 with IS/OS/VR. The 70-200/2.8 variant is quite heavy. And on a crop, a little long. I personally don't see myself going FF until a new body can be had for about $1000, so I'm ok w/ the APS-C lenses for now.

I have the tokina 50-135 and love the IQ/build.. it just lacks a fast motor and stabilization.

I'd really like to see something along the lines of a 12-60mm f/2.8-4.0 for Nikon F mount. Olympus makes one for 4/3, but it would be more useful with Nikon's smaller 1.5x DX FOV crop factor.

and here's what I think Nikon's lens designers should have on their schedule: lots of updates, and a few slight redesigns.

"AF-S" denotes full-time-manual-override-type AF-S. "AF-s" denotes kit flip-a-switch-for-MF-type AF-S. In order of increasing focal length.

ASAP
- AF-s 30mm f/1.8G DX
- AF-S 17-55mm f/2.8G DX VR
- AF-S 28mm f/1.4G
- AF-s 50mm f/1.8G
- AF-S 85mm f/1.4G VR
- AF-S 85mm f/1.8G VR
- AF-S 200mm f/4G VR Micro
- AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8G VR
- AF-S 24-120mm f/4G VR
- AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8G N VR II
- AF-S 70-200mm f/4G VR
- AF-S 300mm f/4G VR
- AF-S 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G VR
Distant Future
- AF-S 50mm f/1.4G VR
- AF-S 200-400mm f/4G N VR II

I'd like to see f/1.2 lenses from Sigma. Their 30mm f/1.4 and 50mm f/1.4 are great pieces of glass, but that's the fastest lenses they offer.

Also, Sigma's recently-announced 24-70EX HSM will be added to my kit on the day that it launches.

All I really want is a reasonably-priced autofocusing prime for the Nikon F mount. I know Sigma makes an autofocusing prime but it's about $700.

marketable w/o having to buy it on special order. more than say 100k people will buy it. not a tech demo/proof of concept.

ah in that case

would these be out:

EF 24 1.2L IS USM
EF 300 1.2L IS USM
EF 10 1.0L IS USM

all weather sealed
also ring type USM

ok reasonable ?
;)

Something along the line of Canon's MP-E 65mm, with a Nikon mount.

For Nikon, more lightweight f/4 lenses with VR, AF-S, SWM, and weathersealing. Overall, more lenses with weathersealing and SWM, primes especially.

A weathersealed 18-200mm VR!

I'm surprised no one has anything comparable to it. Perhaps the patents are tough to get around.

I didn't even think about this. A 50 f/1.4 with ring USM would be fantastic. The current 50 f/1.4 is godlke on a 5D

a longer focal length (and thus working distance) would be nice, too. but that would probably be a custom-order lens then (imagine how much a 200mm f/5.6 Macro 5:1 would cost)

from the Olympus camp:

nothing really for me to satisfy my "under $1000, mid range" desire, before spluring on the elite, fixed f/2.8 aperture stuff:

Olympus 12-60mm f/2.8-4.0 ($799, waiting for it go down a little more)
Olympus 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 ($325, but I don't find myself using these focal length)

the only one that doesn't exist and one that I would really want is a reasonably priced Marco (the 50mm f/2.0 is $410)

Sigma 50-150mm F2.8 II EX DC HSM on a Pentax/Sony with in-body stabilisation - sorted! ;)

Minolta had something like it (3:1 instead of 5:1 though) & I think that they had it first.

For me something like a higher quality Bigma (50-500mm) but with a wider aperture, say f4/f4.5 ...

Think that the 70-400mm f4.0-5.6 G SSM is about as close as I will get though.

100-400L IS USM
canon 30 1.4L IS USM
canon 50 1.4 IS USM
canon 14-20 2.8 IS USM

all with proper seals, ring USM and 4 or 5 stop IS.

frankly, if they would just update their damn lens lineup with seals and updated IS for all L lenses, i'd be happy. that wide zoom would be awesome on a 5D2.
